The rule follower breaks the rules

Last night was Kayla’s last dance recital ever. She is going to nationals next week but I am not going so it was the final. Many have asked aren’t you sad. Not really. Besides the fact that most of the time watching three nights in a row of dance is about as exciting as watching paint dry, my goal has always been to get these girls grown up and be able to live as independent successful people. Each milestone that we reach gets us closer to goal. Now with this said I will probably be hospitalized with empty nest syndrome. Until that time I plan to celebrate each success.
Wow I really wandered off track. Anyway the rule has always been no photos and no video taping during recital. Flash photography can distract the girls and be dangerous and video taping can lead to people ripping off the routines. They do have rehearsal in which we are allowed to do both. However, Kayla had to miss rehearsal because it was the same day as graduation.
This year I put my foot down and insisted that Brian and Kayla were doing the father daughter dance. They have both always refused in the past but I told them its the last year, you are doing it for me. Ok so I threw the mom card down. It worked and they danced and it was awesome. Now Emily had planned to leave straight from school and come last night but school ran an hour late and she couldn’t come. She was so disappointed she burst into tears. I felt badly for her and I knew she really wanted to see the father daughter dance. So I decided I was videoing the part with Brian and Kayla. What would they do? Arrest me? I had already purchased the DVD. Of course I did not realize my stupid phone did not zoom on video and I couldn’t download an app to do it so it’s far away but I sent it to Emily and she could pick out Brian.
So I have survived not following the rules. I about had an anxiety attack so it will be a while before I try that again!

Close to going to postal on the post office!

Ordering Emily’s textbooks for college has always been a nightmare. The website insists on sending them to the address the credit card is in. Well of course that address is my address and she always waits till the last minute; therefor, I end up having to mail them to her. After she graduated, I made her order her summer books the next day. Only one came before she went back to school. So the other four finally arrive and I went straight to my favorite place (the post office) to mail them. I have a love affair with the mail and wait every day for it to come. So the guy waits on me and asks me if I want insurance. I said you know I usually pass but this is 300 worth of textbooks so I said sign me up. So for five bucks my package is now insured. This was on a Wednesday and it was guaranteed delivery by Monday. Well Monday came and no package so I got on line for tracking and all it says is the package was accepted at Imperial. So I waited until Friday and then I email customer service because the option to speak to someone on the 1-800 number is not available. What company turns off the customer service option? Apparently my favorite place. Well my email must have gotten some attention because someone from the Arnold post office called me on Saturday. Apparently my package was sent media mail and can take a month or longer to get there. He tells me it will get delivered eventually. I inform him I have 300 worth of insurance on this package. I then smart off and ask how long I will have to wait, like a year. He says not that long. Well after 14 days I can report this as lost and get my insurance money. We shall see how fast they find the package then. At this point I’d be willing to go get it from the central mailing office and mail them via the brown clowns. (UPS). And now that Emily will be at the same place for the next three years she is changing her address on her credit card and this problem will be solved. In the meantime where the bleep is her books?

As usual, I have no clue what I am doing!

While driving home from dropping Allyson off at art camp I made the decision to start a blog. My counselor suggested it a few years ago but I have always been one slow to listen. I came up with the perfect name “life with moles.” As I learned to accept a long time ago, my life is always a comedy….of errors.
I decided my first post will be about yesterdays adventures. I signed Allyson up for art camp. I have wanted to for the past couple of years but didn’t because of the cost. This year I threw caution to the wind and signed her up for four different weeks. I will have to beg for extra shifts when I return to work. So I pick her up and ask how it went. She said our first project was to take clay and show texture and I rolled it out flat and wrote TEXTURE in it. Then she said I won. I was impressed with her cleverness. I would have tried to make the clay lumpy or something stupid like that. It is why I am a nurse and not an artist.
While working on this Kayla attempts to take her antibiotic for her tonsillitis. She puts it in her mouth, takes a drink of water, starts choking and then it flew out of her mouth nearly missing the table. And that folks is life with moles!

I hate technology

I have been unable to access my blog for well over 24 hours. I did some research and found that blog.com is down all the time and for long periods of time. I had two choices, deal with it or bite the bullet, move my blog and pay to call it lifewithmoles.net. So I choose the second option and decided its only money. This time I did major research and the new domain got rave reviews. If this tanks, then I will say forget it and just write notes on Facebook. Ok those that really know me, know this is a total lie. I cannot leave this stuff alone until I figure it out and get it working. I seriously need an intervention. Anyway, now to mess with the site to get it to look the way I would like. More tomorrow!
